Today, Manhattan’s High Line serves as a daily refuge from the mean streets of Chelsea (ha), where tourists and tourists alike can sip $6 coffees as they marvel at the earth-shattering views of New York that being thirty feet up affords.

That is to say, it’s an entirely lovely — albeit buttoned-up and yuppie — experience.

But the elevated 1930’s-era rail line that was brilliantly transformed into a public park sat dormant for decades, and only the most adventurous in the city would dare ascend its rusty, overgrown heights.

And some, we’ve now learned, stripped naked once they reached the top.

Photographer Kevin McDermott is publishing a new book, in association with the Friends of the High Line, called High Line Nudes, proving the best views in New York can be where you least expect them.
